How can my child participate in Sunflower Sessions?

Sunflower Sessions are optional, pre-scheduled photography times offered by SchoolPix to support those who may benefit from a calmer, quieter portrait photo environment.

If your child has a non-visible disability or would benefit from extra time and support on school photo day, then you can ask your school about Sunflower Sessions.

How do Sunflower Sessions provide support for students with non-visible disabilities?

You might have seen people wearing a green lanyard with sunflowers on it. The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower was created to allow people to voluntarily share that they have a non-visible disability.

The SchoolPix photography team have undertaken the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower program training and are ready to provide supportive portrait photography sessions for students and staff with non-visible disabilities.

All SchoolPix schools will have the option to include a Sunflower Session in their photo day.

Does my child need to wear the green lanyard to participate in Sunflower Sessions?

If your child has found photo day difficult or uncomfortable in the past, then they are welcome to join their school’s Sunflower Session. They do not need to wear the green Sunflower lanyard.

Key points to note:

  • Participation is optional and identified by the school or parent/guardian.
  • No diagnosis or documentation is required.
  • Sessions are calm, unhurried, and pre-blocked.
  • A positive experience is always the priority.
  • SchoolPix will not question a student’s participation.
If you believe your child would benefit from participating in a Sunflower Session, please talk to your school to discover the times and locations.
